Frequently Asked Question
If your domain emails are not receiving messages, the issue is often missing or incorrect MX records. Follow the steps below to properly configure Google Workspace MX records in GoDaddy.
Step 1: Login to GoDaddy
- Go to https://godaddy.com
- Click Sign In
- Login with your domain account credentials
Step 2: Open DNS Management
- Go to My Products
- Locate your domain
- Click DNS or Manage DNS
You will now see the DNS Records page.
Step 3: Remove Old MX Records (Important)
- If you see existing MX records pointing to:
- mail.yourdomain.com
- secureserver.net
- outlook.com
- Any hosting provider
Delete them before adding new ones.
⚠️ Only one email provider should have MX records.
Step 4: Add Google Workspace MX Records
Click Add → Select MX
Add the following records one by one:
Type | Host | Priority | Points To | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
MX | @ | 1 | ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM | Default |
MX | @ | 5 | ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM | Default |
MX | @ | 5 | ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM | Default |
MX | @ | 10 | ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM | Default |
MX | @ | 10 | ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM | Default |
Host should remain: @
TTL can be left as default (1 hour is fine)
Save after each entry.
Step 5: Wait for DNS Propagation
- Changes may take up to 24–48 hours
- In most cases, email starts working within 30–90 minutes
You can verify using:
- mxtoolbox.com (MX Lookup)
- Google Admin Toolbox
Important Checks After Adding MX
✔ Ensure no old MX records remain
✔ Confirm SPF record exists
✔ Ensure DKIM is enabled in Google Admin
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Adding MX records without deleting old ones
- Entering wrong priority numbers
- Typing the server name incorrectly
- Forgetting the dot in .COM (Google accepts both but accuracy matters)
If email still doesn’t work after updating MX, verify:
- Domain nameservers are correct
- Domain has not expired
- User mailbox exists in Google Workspace
