Internet is Slow or Keeps Disconnecting

Problem Summary:

You’re connected to Wi-Fi or LAN, but internet speed is low or keeps dropping.

Possible Causes:

  • Router overload or outdated firmware
  • ISP issues
  • Device overload or network congestion
  • Background downloads or malware

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Restart Your Router/Modem
    • Unplug the router.
    • Wait for 30 seconds.
    • Plug it back in and wait for it to stabilize.
  2. Check Cable Connections
    • Ensure LAN cables are firmly connected.
    • For wireless: Stand closer to the router and see if it improves.
  3. Test on Another Device
    • Try loading a website on a different device.
    • If only one device is slow, the issue is local (restart it or clear cache).
  4. Run a Speed Test
  5. Scan for Malware or Background Downloads
    • On Windows: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Task Manager → Check Network tab
    • Close unnecessary apps hogging bandwidth.
  6. Update Router Firmware
    • Login to your router admin page (check back of device for IP, usually 192.168.1.1)
    • Update firmware if available.
